Protesters Wait in Vain for Bush
Associated Press
NEW YORK —
About 1,000 anti-war demonstrators chanting “No blood for oil!” awaited President Bush on Wednesday night at his first non-military appearance since the Gulf War began. But they never saw the President.
The protesters huddled beneath umbrellas in a driving rain as the presidential motorcade ducked inside the Hilton Hotel garage for Bush’s appearance before the Economic Club of New York. They shouted “Peace now!” and waved signs.
Police said three demonstrators were arrested for disorderly conduct.
