U.S. Defense Budget

If anyone doubted that one of the major motives behind this war in the Gulf was panic in the Pentagon over talk of a peace dividend, the Feb. 4 press conference with Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney should put that doubt to rest. To make matters worse--as our troops and Iraqi civilians are dying and in grave danger--the projections on future weapons and capabilities provided a clear display of Pentagon insensitivity, not to mention obscene opportunism.
