Forecast for Weekend Is Dry, Pleasant

Repelled by a high-pressure system over the West Coast, Pacific storms will carom away from San Diego, leaving the county dry and sunny this weekend, the National Weather Service predicted.

“There’s a storm falling apart just west of here,” forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said. “We might get a few clouds from the storm this weekend, but that’s about all. No rain is expected.”

The storm is instead headed for Washington and Oregon, and San Diego will be treated to “very pleasant weather for the middle of winter,” Shigehara said. Spring is still over a month away--March 20, but the winter weather has been very mild.

Another storm coming from north of the Hawaiian Islands might brush San Diego by midweek. Whether the county receives any rain from it will depend on whether the high pressure over the coast collapses and allows the storm to come in, Shigehara said.

Over the weekend, the only distraction from a rather pleasant weather pattern will be the fog, he said. Areas west of the mountains can expect night and early-morning fog, which will be dense in some coastal areas.
