A man shot to death in downtown San Diego was identified Thursday as James Allan Perrine, 28, of San Diego by the county medical examiner’s office.

Police found Perrine shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, lying dead in the street at 16th Street and Imperial Avenue with a gunshot wound in his chest, police spokesman Lt. Greg Fay said.

Police are searching for three men seen running away after the shooting, Fay said. Investigators believe the shooting took place during a drug deal.

Perrine lived in the 2300 block of 5th Avenue, said Ken Bell, an investigator with the medical examiner’s office. He was a construction worker and leaves several children.
