Cawdrey Appeals to Supreme Court

Redondo Beach Councilman Ron Cawdrey filed an appeal Thursday with the state Supreme Court, asking the justices to place his name on the city’s March 5 ballot.
Cawdrey, who wants the city’s two-term limit for council members set aside, has asked the justices for an immediate decision on whether he can appear on the ballot. Cawdrey’s attorney, Barry Fisher, said such requests generally are answered within a week, but very few are successful.
A similar request to a three-judge district appeals court panel was rejected on Tuesday.
Last week, a Torrance Superior Court judge upheld the term limit adopted by voters in 1975, effectively barring Cawdrey from the ballot.
Even if the Supreme Court refuses to allow Cawdrey to be a candidate in the upcoming election, Fisher said he hopes to continue the fight to overturn the term limit at the district Court of Appeal so Cawdrey can participate in future elections.
