OAKLAND — City officials are studying the possibility of building a $100-million downtown arena for the Golden State Warriors, according to a published report.
A proposal for a 21,000-seat arena is being drafted, according to a story in today’s editions of the Tribune that said the plan could be finished within weeks.
Ezra Rapport, assistant to the city manager, told the Tribune that officials are considering parking and environmental impacts at several possible sites. Security, traffic management and financing issues also are being studied, he said.
The Golden State Warriors and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum are working on a proposal to build a new 22,000-seat arena in the Coliseum’s northern parking lot.
Proponents say that project could benefit from existing facilities and services, such as parking, security and easy access to freeways and Bay Area Rapid Transit trains.
The Warriors sell out nearly all their home games at the 15,025-seat Coliseum Arena.
