YORBA LINDA : More Pay for Those on Military Leave
- Share via
The City Council passed a resolution extending pay and benefits to full-time employees on military leave because of the Persian Gulf War.
The council’s unanimous decision Tuesday came after a female code enforcement officer was called to active duty late last month in Operation Desert Storm.
“The Gulf War has now touched on Yorba Linda,” City Manager Arthur C. Simonian said.
Federal law requires that all employees called for active military duty receive full salary and benefits for the first 30 days. Council members approved a plan to extend pay and benefits for another 150 days. During that time, employees would receive the difference between their military pay and their regular pay and also full medical coverage and payment of health insurance premiums.
Should the war extend beyond the 150 days, Simonian said, he plans to bring the matter back to the council.
The council also gave unanimous support to a resolution expressing support of U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf War.
