A burglar led police on a 1 1/2-hour chase through a residential neighborhood in Ventura early Saturday after he broke into two Seaward Avenue restaurants and dove through a plate-glass window trying to escape police, Ventura Police Officer Rick French said.

Jerry Dean Bohannon, 28, who was recently paroled from state prison, was arrested on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest, French said.

Officers responded to an alarm at Eric Ericsson’s Fish Company restaurant at 6:30 a.m. and found a man burglarizing the restaurant and the attached business, R.J.’s Giant Hamburgers, French said. A pane in a French door had been broken to gain entrance, he said.

When confronted, the man dove through a window facing Seaward Avenue and ran west into a residential area, French said. After a search by three officers and a police dog, Bohannon was arrested in a Sharon Lane residence, police said.

Bohannon was being held Saturday night in Ventura County Jail without bail, Sgt. Bob Larson said.
