Police Capt. Daniel Cross has been promoted to deputy police chief and will receive a $3,096 raise approved Monday night by the City Council.
Cross, who was sworn into the new post Tuesday afternoon, will be involved in the overall operation of the department as Police Chief Robert Collins’ “right-hand man,” Personnel Director Mario Beas said.
In addition to his new duties, Cross will continue overseeing the same department operations he headed as a captain, including patrol, traffic and community relations. Cross, who was receiving $61,956 a year, now will earn $65,052.
The department’s other captain, Jim Strait, will remain in charge of support services.
