Glendora : 2 Sites Get Landmark Status

Share

A house built by Glendora’s founder and the workshop where the Rain Bird sprinkler was invented were designated historic landmarks by the City Council Tuesday.

The Hamilton House, built in the 1880s and since moved to Centennial Heritage Park, was built by Glendora founder George Whitcomb and was the childhood home of Glendora educator Margaret Sellers, after whom Sellers Elementary School is named.

The Orton Engelhardt Workshop was built between 1900 and 1910 and also was moved to the park. In the workshop, Engelhardt worked on the plans, molds and early models of his Rain Bird sprinkler head, originally used in the citrus industry and is now popularly used on lawns. Rain Bird Corp. is still based in Glendora.
