Countywide : Celebration to Focus on Ethnic Diversity

Share

Diverse ethnic entertainment, ranging from American Indian dances to songs by a Jewish cantor, will highlight a community get-together sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League of Camarillo on Sunday in celebration of Brotherhood Month.

Edwin Pollaine, master of ceremonies of the event, said the league wants to show that the strength of the United States lies in its diversity.

“We’re doing this to eliminate bigotry and prejudice and to promote harmony, benevolence and brotherhood,” Pollaine said.

The free event, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Camarillo Community Center, will include the Candelaria American Indian Council, the Sons of Italy Lodge 1565, the Irish American Club of Ventura County, El Concilio, a Latino organization, the Ventura County Chinese American Club and Camarillo B’nai B’rith Lodge 3118.

Entertainment will include Ballet Folklorico dancers, classical Chinese dancers, Italian singer Eleanor Quartuccio, American Indian songs and dances and Irish claddagh dancers. Cantor Jeffrey Cohen will also sing.

Each group will have a speaker who will explain his or her organization, and refreshments will reflect each ethnic group, Pollaine said. The event is open to the public.
