Cawdrey Appeal Rejected Again

The state Supreme Court has rejected Redondo Beach City Councilman Ron Cawdrey’s bid to have his name included on the city’s March 5 ballot.
Cawdrey had sought to have the city’s two-term limit on council members overturned and had asked the justices for an immediate ruling so he could take part in the election.
Last week, a three-judge appellate panel refused to hear his emergency appeal. The week before that, a Torrance Superior Court judge had upheld the limit, approved by voters in 1975.
Neither the appellate panel nor the Supreme Court, which rejected the appeal late last week, made any comment on the case.
Barry Fisher, Cawdrey’s attorney, said no decision has been made on whether to go forward with a long-term effort to defeat the city’s term limit.
“Even though it won’t be resolved before this election, there are future elections, and it’s an issue that remains unanswered in California,” Fisher said. “We have 60 days within which to file an appeal, so we are discussing it.”
