High Life A WEEKLY FORUM FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS : Irvine Coed to Be Envoy to Soviets

Christine Mar, 17, a senior at University High School in Irvine, will be a student ambassador to the Soviet Union this summer. Her selection was announced by Initiative for Understanding, a student program based in Spokane, Wash.

Christine will attend orientation meetings in the spring to prepare for her 23-day trip, which will include stops in Moscow, Leningrad and three other cities to visit Russian students.

Christine, who was named 1990 Irvine Young Woman of the Year, has served four years in student government and is a member of the Orange County Youth Advisory Council Against Drug Abuse.

The Key Clubs of the Santa Ana Unified School District will have a food drive from March 11 through 22 for the Food Distribution Center.

Anyone interested in making a donation may do so at Century High School, 1401 S. Grand Ave.; Saddleback High School, 2802 S. Flower St.; Santa Ana High School, 520 W. Walnut St., or Valley High School, 1801 S. Greenville Ave.

The Cypress High School team of Michelle Satorhelyf, Jason Wong, Jimmy Chong and Jonathan Lim won the recent Rancho Santiago College mathematics department computer problem-solving contest.

Second-place honors went to the Orange High School team of Dean Yimlamai, Joel Cloud, Darrell Hall and Matt Hohfield; third went to the Troy High School team of Sam Sun, Ravi Montenegro, Barry Adams and Michael Latteier.

The event attracted 100 participants from 16 high schools in the county.
