Clinic Dismays Foe of Abortion

A dark and dismal shadow is about to fall over the South Bay. When Planned Parenthood unveiled its plan to open its first L.A. County abortion clinic in seven years in Torrance (Times, Feb. 10), my heart was overwhelmed with grief.

Planned Parenthood was quick to point out statistics to the press regarding the “high” percentage of unserviced, low-income women in the South Bay. Here are some of their own statistics they neglected to share:

Planned Parenthood is the world’s largest provider of abortions and birth control services. According to their published statistics, in 1988, PP performed 111,189 abortions in the U.S. and referred another 100,248. This represents 13% of the 1.6 million U.S. abortions performed that year. (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 1989 Service Report, Page 14.)

Curiously enough, PP has somehow managed to manufacture for itself a sterling reputation. It has a reputation for providing effective and professional social services, developing educational programs for teens and advocating low-cost health services for women.

However, all that glitters is not gold. Everywhere that Planned Parenthood goes, an increase in sexually transmitted diseases, crisis pregnancies and abortion follows. The nationwide implementation of PP-style sex education programs over the past 20 years has been accompanied by a 230% increase in teen-age abortions. (PP’s own survey, Louis Harris Poll, 1986)

According to the Harris Poll, the only things that effectively decrease teen pregnancies are frequent church attendance and parental guidance, the very things that PP has been fighting against for three quarters of a century. They have named the Catholic church as public enemy No. 1, and they consistently lobby against the parent’s right to know if their child wants to abort her baby. And unfortunately, this is only a portion of their long and deceptive track record.

Operation Rescue South Bay and all other pro-family organizations in this community are dedicated and determined to prevent the murder of unborn children to the best of our God-given abilities. We will do all that we can to educate the community and expose PP’s real agenda to all, so that not even one drop of innocent blood is shed in Torrance.
