Oxnard : Elks Lodge Donates $1,700 to Fly Flags

Share

The Oxnard chapter of the Elks Lodge has donated $1,700 to the city to pay for the cost of flying U.S. flags on Oxnard Boulevard in support of the war effort in the Persian Gulf.

Last week, city officials said the financially strapped city could not afford the $1,700 that it would cost to fly the flags and asked citizens to step forward with money or volunteer their time to help display them.

“The Elks Lodge takes great pride in funding the public display of flags in our city,” said Elks spokesman Richard Brown, as he presented Oxnard Mayor Nao Takasugi with the check last Tuesday.

The flags are scheduled to be hung on Tuesday.
