Auto Sales Down Again: Sales of North American-made cars and trucks took another dive in mid-February, plunging 12.9%. Nine of the 10 major auto makers in the United States said they sold an average of 24,387 vehicles a day in the Feb. 11-20 period, compared to 27,262 vehicles in last year’s period. GM’s mid-February sales of North American-made cars were down 13.9%, combining with a 19.4% decline in truck sales for a 15.7% drop in overall vehicle sales. Ford said its domestic car sales were down 3.8%. With truck sales that fell 13.9%, Ford said its decline in overall vehicle sales was 7.9%. Chrysler no longer reports sales every 10 days.
