SIMI VALLEY : Schools’ Fiscal Head Resigns Position

Share

The director of fiscal services for Simi Valley Unified School District has resigned to take a position with the office of the Los Angeles County superintendent of schools.

Michele McClowry, who worked for the school district for a year, said she took the new job as a business manager because it pays more and is near her residence in La Verne. She said she was tired of making the 60-mile commute to Simi Valley.

“I loved my job,” McClowry said. “But it just became too difficult for me. I was working 10 hours a day and commuting 3 1/2 hours a day.”

McClowry started her new job last Thursday but because of unused vacation time, her resignation will not become effective until March 19.

Simi Valley school officials said they will accept applications during the next few weeks to fill McClowry’s position.

School board member Ken Ashton said McClowry’s resignation would not create any problems with the district putting together its 1991-92 budget. The district must submit its budget to the Ventura County superintendent of schools by June 30.

“We’ll make it,” Ashton said. “We’ve still got some very competent people.” He said, however, that McClowry will be missed.

“Michele is a very talented person, but we can understand why she did what she did,” he said.
