Some lesser-known facts about Babe Ruth:
Along with teammate Bob Meusel, he was fined his World Series share of $3,500 and suspended in the fall of 1921 by Commissioner Kenesaw Landis for barnstorming after the World Series. The tow players were reinstated May 20, 1922.
He was the first major athlete to endorse Jockey, famed today for Jim Palmer’s underwear ads.
He is the only starting pitcher in World Series history to bat anywhere but ninth in the order.
He pitched the longest complete game, 14 innings, in World Series history, in 1916.
The Baby Ruth candy bar, which made its appearance in 1917, is not named after him, but after Ruth Cleveland, the daughter of President Grover Cleveland.
