Winona Ryder, Janet Jackson and a few other clients of the Umberto hair salon in Beverly Hills don’t balk when stylists suggest they take home a bottle of $18 shampoo or $60 conditioner, says Babette Beja of the salon. The costly goods are by Phytotherathrie (Phyto for short). They’re botanically based and imported from France, where they have been available for 25 years. Nordstrom recently added the Phyto line. And another pricey label, Lazartique, will be showcased in its own Rodeo Drive boutique, to open this month.

MODEL MOVES: It was a supermodels shopping binge when Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Gail Elliot got out their charge cards and headed to Prada, a Beverly Hills boutique. Campbell bought a quilted, chain-handle bag. Crawford cruised out with a mini-trench coat in pale pink.

TRAVELING BY TWOS: What if a man and woman want to pack one suitcase and take a holiday? Italian designer Romeo Gigli asked himself that question and came up with a new, unisex line of clothes called G Gigli. Among the Gigli-isms are T-shirts with unusual necklines and bosom-wraps for women to tie over the T’s. The clothes are made of earthy-colored cotton, priced from $100 to $300, and already available in Italy. They’re due here next fall.

A LITTLE DEBUT: Los Angeles designer Carole Little recently made her movie debut by designing the costumes for Dyan Cannon’s new film, “The End of Innocence.” Leggings and T-shirts were the only Little-brand items to make it to celluloid immortality. She picked up other pieces in Paris boutiques, Sears and JC Penney; the rest of the clothing was custom made.

BANNER DAYS: After our Feb. 15 story on patriotic fashion, one company, Top Drawer, gave us the bad news: The rhinestone flag rings and flag pendants we featured won’t be in stores, including the Accessory Place and Xtras, until the end of the month.
