The Portland Trail Blazers, clinging to a shrinking lead over the Lakers in the Pacific Division, keep running into obstacles on the road.

Charles Barkley had 32 points and 11 rebounds as the Philadelphia 76ers won their seventh game in a row Friday night, defeating the Trail Blazers, 121-111, at Philadelphia. Portland, still with the best record in the NBA at 44-14 and 1 1/2 games ahead of the Lakers, lost its fourth in a row and its first of the season against an Atlantic Division team.

Portland, which went 0-for-13 from three-point range, is in the midst of three games in four days. Hersey Hawkins scored 27 points and Armon Gilliam 25 for the 76ers, who made all 25 of their foul shots in the second half, and 38 of 40 overall. Clyde Drexler had 23 points and Kevin Duckworth 19 points and 15 rebounds for Portland.

Barkley, who had 17 points in the first half, scored 11 in the third quarter.

Utah 94, Detroit 92--Thurl Bailey’s baseline jumper with 0.8 seconds remaining at Auburn Hills, Mich., dealt the Pistons their first five-game losing streak in five years.

The Pistons, who last lost five consecutive games in 1985-86, took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter, but Karl Malone’s basket with 3:42 left tied it, 87-87. It was 92-92 when Detroit’s Vinnie Johnson missed a shot that was rebounded by Andy Toolson. He passed to John Stockton, who passed to Bailey for the game-winner.

Malone had 32 points and Stockton 17 points and 13 assists for Utah. Joe Dumars scored 21 points and Johnson 20 for the Detroit.

Boston 108, San Antonio 98--Larry Bird scored 20 of his 29 points in the second half, rallying the Celtics over the Spurs, who lost a big lead for the second game in a row.

Boston overcame a 51-34 deficit with 5:11 left in the first half, outscoring the Spurs, 32-19, in the third period and, 25-19, in the fourth. The Spurs lost to the Knicks in New York Thursday night after leading 19-1. San Antonio has lost six of its last eight games, with the two victories coming against Portland.

Indiana 118, Cleveland 115--Chuck Person scored 26 points, including two free throws with 10 seconds left that lifted the Pacers at Indianapolis.

Detlef Schrempf scored 24 points and Reggie Miller 22 for the Pacers, who have won seven of nine games. Larry Nance had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Brad Daugherty 22 points and 17 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Chicago 109, Dallas 86--Michael Jordan scored 15 of his 29 points in the third quarter leading the Bulls to their 11th victory in a row in a game at Chicago.

The victory extended the Bulls’ home winning streak to 20. They are 25-3 at Chicago Stadium, and the last four victories have come by an average of 30.3 points. The Bulls took advantage in the third quarter when they outscored the Mavericks, 15-2, in the last 3:36 for a 75-60 lead.

Phoenix 112, Sacamento 106--Jeff Hornacek scored 20 points and the Suns overcame 20 missed free throws to hand the Kings their eighth consecutive loss and 25th in a row on the road.

Kevin Johnson and Dan Majerle added 18 points apiece for the Suns, who made 38 of 58 free throws but still defeated Sacramento for the eighth in a row.

Milwaukee 106, Washington 105--The Bucks’ Alvin Robertson stole the ball from Ledell Eackles at midcourt and drove to the basket for the winning dunk with three seconds left at Milwaukee.

The Bullets, leading 105-104, took possession with 26 seconds remaining before Robertson, the NBA steals leader, stole the ball and scored.

Seattle 122, Charlotte 105--The SuperSonics scored the first 20 points of the game and rolled to victory behind Benoit Benjamin’s 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Charlotte did not score until Kendall Gill made a jump shot with 6:22 left in the first quarter. The Sonics led by at least nine points the rest of the way.
