Inglewood Extends Its Acupressure Ban
The Inglewood City Council extended its ban on new acupressure businesses Tuesday to further investigate reports that some of the current shops have been used as fronts for prostitution.
Five of the city’s six acupressure operations opened during the last two years, and two others are awaiting approval. Inglewood police arrested two women at one of the businesses in late December on suspicion of solicitation.
The moratorium, first approved in January, was extended until Jan. 28, 1992. It could end earlier if the council imposes regulations controlling the businesses.
Acupressure involves the manipulation of pressure points through massage, whereas acupuncture uses needles. Practitioners of both ancient Asian specialties say they can ease pain and improve circulation.
