Santa Monica : Well Water to Be Tapped

Share

In response to further cutbacks announced by the Metropolitan Water District this week, Santa Monica plans to draw more heavily from its well-water reserves rather than ask residents to reduce usage even more.

City Manager John Jalili said the city will tap into its well water instead of ordering residents to go beyond a 25% mandatory cutback already in effect. The MWD said it will cut supplies by 30% rather than the 25% announced last week.

With the current measures in effect and help from the well water, the city will make it through the drought, Jalili said. “With a 25% reduction in water use, we are fairly confident we will make it,” he said.
