Los Angeles County is looking for a few good men and women.

Applications for ocean lifeguard positions are now available at all main lifeguard stations between Zuma and Cabrillo beaches and at the Marina del Rey Visitors Information Center. The deadline for applying is April 5.

All applicants must complete a 1,000-meter ocean swim test at Santa Monica Beach on Saturday, April 6. The top 100 finishers in the swim test will advance to oral interviews. Finalists will receive six days of instruction on such topics as first aid and CPR, simulated ocean rescues, various run and swim tests, and use of rescue boards.

Potential candidates can improve their ocean swimming skills in informal weekend training sessions conducted by county lifeguards at their Santa Monica headquarters, 1642 Promenade. The sessions will be held on the weekends of March 16-17, 23-24 and 30-31 between 9:30 and 11 a.m.
