Countywide : Health Inspectors Closed 2 Restaurants

Share

Ventura County health inspectors closed two restaurants in February for state Health Code violations. One was allowed to reopen the following day, while the other remains closed.

The kitchen of Yolanda’s Place, 834 Wooley Road, Oxnard, has been closed since a Feb. 14 inspection revealed cockroach and mouse infestation, leaking restroom plumbing and a damaged kitchen floor. The bar has remained open.

A follow-up visit showed that the vermin infestation had been eliminated, but the inspector refused to allow food preparation and a resumption of service until the other problems were corrected.

An inspection in October, when the restaurant was called Leticia’s Place, found 12 violations, but they were not deemed serious enough to force closure.

The restaurant was ordered closed when the inspector returned to see whether the previous problems had been corrected.

Siamese Thai Restaurant, 1772-H Ave. de los Arboles in Thousand Oaks, was ordered closed Feb. 5 when an Environmental Health Department inspector found uncovered food, a dirty kitchen floor, dirty restrooms and a leaking refrigerator. The inspector permitted the restaurant to resume business the next day after the floors had been sanitized and the restaurant made a commitment to take care of the other problems.

The establishment was shut down in September when more serious breaches were found and remained closed for more than a month.

The inspector cited storage of poultry at dangerously high temperatures, frozen food being allowed to thaw at room temperature, failure to wash dishes and utensils with chlorine, and other violations.

In April, 1989, before Siamese Thai Restaurant opened, an inspector found several violations and delayed issuance of a department permit for two weeks.
