Jennifer Capriati was more concerned about her opponent’s feelings than fatigue.

Capriati, playing for the second time in 16 hours, advanced to the quarterfinals of a Virginia Slims tournament by sweeping doubles partner Gigi Fernandez, 6-3, 6-2, Thursday at Boca Raton, Fla.

“You just play the ball and forget who you’re playing,” Capriati said. “In the locker room afterward she said, ‘We’re going to win (in doubles), right?’ And so everything was cool--thank God.”

A short time later, they teamed up to win their doubles match.

Capriati, who survived a three-set match Wednesday night against Karin Kschwendt, overcame weariness and some shaky service games to turn back Fernandez.

Top-seeded Steffi Graf showed there is still a substantial gap between the top two players in Germany by trouncing Anke Huber, 6-0, 6-1, in 45 minutes.

In other matches, Regina Rajchrtova of Czechoslovakia surprised seventh-seeded Natalia Zvereva of the Soviet Union, 6-3, 6-3, and Claudia Porwik of Germany ousted ninth-seeded Helen Kelesi, 6-4, 7-5.

Anders Jarryd of Sweden, one of the world’s top doubles players, moved into a singles semifinal for the second consecutive week with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mark Woodforde of Australia at the Copenhagen Open.

The eighth-seeded Jarryd also reached the semifinals in an event last weekend in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Jarryd will meet another Australian, sixth-seeded Todd Woodbridge, in Saturday’s semifinals. Woodbridge beat fourth-seeded Karel Novacek of Czechoslovakia, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-1.
