The Garden Grove Education Assn. has presented its “I Make a Difference” award to Judy Ishihara, a 20-year teacher at Rosita Elementary School in Westminster, for “dedicated service to her community and school.”

“All my community work has taught me to be a good listener, to understand children and meet my students’ needs better,” she said. “I take three or four of my second-graders out to lunch once a month. Sitting around munching hamburgers gives us all a better knowledge of each other.”
