Italy Indicts Financier: Carlo De Benedetti, the financier and computer company magnate, was indicted on charges of complicity in the fraudulent bankruptcy of Banco Ambrosiano, Italy’s biggest banking scandal. No trial date was set by a Milan appellate court. Lower court judges investigating the collapse of Italy’s largest private bank in 1989 indicted 35 people but cleared De Benedetti, who heads the Olivetti computer company, of any wrongdoing. A prosecutor appealed that decision to the higher court.
