Glendora : Mayor’s Term Increased

Over the strong objections of Councilman David Bodley, the City Council approved a resolution Tuesday that will increase the mayor’s term from one year to two.

The measure will go into effect in April, 1992.

Bodley objected to the plan, saying that if the council wants to strengthen the mayor’s office, the mayor should be directly elected, instead of selected by the council.

However, Councilwoman Molly MacLeod said that during a one-year term, the mayor barely has time to learn the job and does not have the chance to acquire seniority in regional organizations. Mayor Bob Kuhn said an elected mayor does not need to try as hard as a council-selected mayor to maintain the support of other council members.
