Tampering Warning Issued on Condensed Milk

Pasadena police on Wednesday issued a product-tampering warning after two women, a 3-year-old child and a 7-month-old infant were hospitalized last week after consuming rice pudding made with La Lechera sweetened condensed milk. The four, all members of one family, have recovered.

The milk, in 14-ounce cans, was bought Feb. 27 at the Louis Foods market, 451 S. Sierra Madre Blvd., police said. Lab tests determined that the milk was laced with PCP, a hallucinogen commonly known as angel dust. The can bore no evidence of tampering, they said. Thirteen milk cans were removed from the store shelves and are being tested; 10 other cans from the same case were sold at the store in the last 12 weeks.

The cans bear the code V0277E on top. Nestle USA Inc., which markets the product, is recalling all La Lechera milk products, a company spokesman said. The company also has set up an information hot line, (800) 525-7022.
