UCLA Chancellor Gets OK to Move Off Campus

Share

UCLA Chancellor Charles E. Young is planning to move off campus.

No, that doesn’t mean imminent retirement for Young, who has headed the Westwood school since 1968. It’s that the chancellor’s formal on-campus residence needs a massive overhaul, including seismic work. And Young said that he and his wife, Sue, want more privacy.

“It’s an opportunity to transition into the next few years,” said Young, who is 59 and faces mandatory retirement in eight years. A UC Board of Regents committee approved the move Thursday. The Youngs, with an expected UC subsidy, are house-shopping. The campus house will be used for meetings.
