SAN CLEMENTE : Stop Sign Approved for Busy Intersection
The City Council has approved a four-way stop sign for a busy intersection that has been plagued by traffic problems.
The intersection of Camino de Estrella and Camino Mira Costa has been scheduled for installation of a traffic signal later this year, but the council voted to put up stop signs in the interim.
Located near a busy shopping center and a small commercial development, the intersection makes for hazardous left turns, according to city traffic planners. Frequent trips by Orange County Transit District buses also clog the intersection because of a major transfer point on the South County bus route.
Traffic planners said three recent accidents at the intersection could have been prevented by stop signs or a signal.
