HUNTINGTON BEACH : New Clubhouse for Boys and Girls Clubs

Share

Ground has been broken for a $1.5-million clubhouse for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley, which serves children in both Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

The new clubhouse is to be built on Delaware Street, near Yorktown Avenue. The site is owned by the city and is being leased for 50 years to the club, said Chris Schneider, executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs.

Schneider said the organization is paying construction costs, but the city is developing the 5.83-acre site around the clubhouse into a park and playground. “The city is also doing the landscaping and the sidewalks,” Schneider said.

He said the clubhouse will have a gymnasium that is being partially paid for by surplus funds from the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles.
