L.A. Heat Owes College for Use of Veterans Stadium
The owners of the defunct Los Angeles Heat soccer team owe Long Beach City College more than $2,200 for use of Veterans Stadium in September.
“I know we owe some bills, but I don’t know how much,” said former Heat President John Ajemian, a part-owner of the team.
The Heat hosted its leg of the American Professional Soccer League West championship series at Veterans Stadium on Sept. 8. According to stadium manager Randy Scottini, the Heat did not responded to three late payment notices prior to the time it folded in early January.
Scottini said that on Oct. 12, Heat General Manager Dick White told him that the club intended to pay the $2,204 bill “within 45 days.”
Ajemian said he and Martin are continuing to pay creditors in installment payments, but large bills such as the one owed the college may take months to complete. Two employees who did not receive final paychecks in December were finally paid last month.
