Don Pooley shot a six-under-par 66 to take a one-stroke lead with a 134 after two rounds of a PGA tournament Friday at Orlando, Fla.

Pooley’s only bogey of the day came on the final hole, where he missed the green in a heavy shower.

Tied for second at 135 were Mark Calcavecchia, who shot a 69, and Tom Sieckmann, whose 65 was the best round of the day.

Arnold Palmer, who serves as host of the tournament at the Bay Hill Club he owns, shot a 71 to make the cut at 143, nine strokes behind Pooley.

It marked the first time in seven years he had made the cut in his own tournament, was the first time since the 1989 PGA Championship he’d made it into weekend competition in a regular-tour event and was only the third time in five seasons he had made it against players 20 and 30 years his junior.

Penny Hammel overcame rain, wind and record cold weather to shoot a one-under 71 to lead by one shot after the first round of the $400,000 Desert Inn LPGA International at Las Vegas.

The first round of the Seniors PGA Tour’s Vantage tournament at San Antonio was postponed because of heavy rain. The event was trimmed from 54 to 36 holes.
