For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Spring is the time to start a regular feeding program for all areas of the garden.

* Plant the star jasmine to cover a fence and enjoy blooms with fragrance.

* Boost garden color by planting marigolds, alyssum, snapdragons, gazania, ageratum and petunias.

* Use mulch, soaker hoses and drip systems that will allow water to reach the roots without any evaporation or watering of areas that don’t need water.
