Buljung, Wigger Are Among Shooters at World Cup USA

The U.S. shooting team will field 49 athletes, among them 1988 silver medalist Erich Buljung in the pistol matches and Deena Wigger in air rifle competition of the 1991 World Cup USA today through Saturday at the Prado Tiro Ranges in Chino, site of the 1984 Olympic competition.

Other favorites are Miroslav Varga and Petr Kurka of Czechoslovakia, Rajmond Deberec and Jasna Sekaric of Yugoslavia, Jean-Pierre Amat of France, Andrea Benelli of Italy, Ragnar Skanaker of Sweden, and Irina Shilova and Vladimir Sokolov of the Soviet Union.

About 475 of the world’s best shooters from 48 countries have entered the qualifying event for the 1992 Summer Games. The World Cup is one of numerous tournaments to determine Olympic shooters.

All 13 Olympic events are scheduled. There are four categories--rifle, pistol, shotgun and running target. Men and women fire separately in rifle and pistol events, but compete together in the shotgun competitions of trap and skeet.
