CSUN Women Sweep Rutgers at Northridge

Patti Pearson went three for five with two runs batted in as Cal State Northridge swept Rutgers, 8-2 and 6-1, in a nonconference double-header at Northridge.

Northridge (20-16) scored six runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie in the first game. Cami Allen (5-8) struck out 12 batters, scattered six hits, and gave up one earned run for the victory.

Tamara Ivie went two for three with a double and three RBIs in the nightcap, which was called after the fifth inning because of rain.

Heather Lindstrom (9-3) pitched a three-hitter and gave up an earned run in the first inning against Rutgers (0-4).

BASEBALL

Crescenta Valley 14, Glendale 2--Ernie Diaz had three hits and three runs batted in and Andy Saltsman hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs as visiting Crescenta Valley (4-2, 2-0) won a Pacific League game called by darkness after five innings.

Senior right-hander John Breckow (1-1) picked up the win after allowing just four hits over five innings.

Alemany 10, Palisades 4--Rene Rodriguez’s three-run triple in the first inning gave the Indians (3-5) a 6-0 lead, pacing Alemany’s victory over host Palisades in a fourth-round Westside Tournament game.

Kirk Fellows added two hits for Alemany.

Marshall 9, Harvard 6--Jono Pivo hit a grand slam in the third inning, but the Seracens (2-5) lost the fourth-round Westside Tournament game at Harvard.

L.A. Baptist 6, Cathedral 1--Scott Briggs went three for three with three RBIs to lead the Knights (2-3) to a nonleague victory over Cathedral (1-3) at L.A. Baptist.

Brad Imbler added two hits and two runs for the Knights. John Gabrielson (1-0) scattered seven hits and struck out five.

GIRLS SOFTBALL

North Hollywood 12, Lincoln 7--Polly Rector (2-1) picked up the win and had three hits and Maria Vasquez hit a home run in a nonleague game at Lincoln.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Canyons d. Rancho Santiago, 15-5, 15-8, 15-10--Eric Henkels had 15 kills and John Flaig added nine kills for host Canyons (5-8) in a nonconference match.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Granada Hills d. Venice, 15-11, 10-15, 15-9, 16-14--Danny Asaoka recorded 24 kills and Josh Henderson had 59 assists for the Highlanders (4-0) in a nonleague match at home.

Harvard d. Chatsworth, 15-4, 15-9, 9-15, 15-6--Eric Wells had 16 kills and Adam Davirro and Andres Carlo each added 14 kills for Harvard (3-1) in a nonleague match at Harvard.

Canoga Park d. Sherman Oaks CES, 9-15, 15-12, 15-9, 15-10--Adam Clint had 7 kills and Chris Ofstad added four kills for Canoga Park (2-2, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Canoga Park.

Taft d. Westchester, 15-7, 15-9, 15-12--Aubry Miller and Casey Sheahan each had 10 kills and Amman Catalan added eight kills for host Taft in a nonleague match. Setter Ryan Cooper had 31 assists for the Toreadors (2-3).

Birmingham d. Sylmar, 15-9, 15-5, 16-14--Stan Yu had 14 kills and Alex Diaz added 11 kills for Birmingham (5-0, 2-0) in a Valley Pac-8 conference match at Sylmar.
