NIT ROUNDUP : Keefe Carries Stanford Past Wisconsin, 80-72

Adam Keefe had 33 points and 14 rebounds, leading Stanford to an 80-72 victory over Wisconsin Monday night in a second-round game of the National Invitation Tournament at Madison, Wis.

Keefe had 21 points in the first half as Stanford (17-13) raced to a 21-5 lead and led, 39-30, at halftime.

Stanford opened the second half with an 8-0 run for a 47-30 lead. The Cardinal led, 60-42, before the Badgers (15-15) rallied.

Wisconsin got to within 73-65 with 1:06 left after three-pointers by Larry Hisle and Kass Weaver, but Stanford held on by making seven free throws.

Providence 85, West Virginia 79--Marvin Saddler scored 21 points and the Friars used an 18-8 surge in the second half to beat the Mountaineers at Providence, R.I.

The Friars (19-12) got six points apiece from Saddler and Corey Floyd in the spree that turned a 64-62 lead into an 82-70 advantage with 2:15 remaining.

West Virginia (17-14) fought back to within 83-79 with 47 seconds left, but missed four consecutive shots in the last 15 seconds.

Oklahoma 89, Cincinnati 81--Terry Evans scored nine points in the final 1:27 of regulation to get the Sooners even, and Bryan Sallier scored the first four points of overtime to overcome the Bearcats at Norman, Okla.

The Sooners (18-14) forced overtime when Kermit Holmes’ follow shot with seven seconds left tied the score, 78-78.

Cincinnati (18-12) led by 12 points in the second half and was ahead, 75-67 with 1:27 left.

Southern Illinois 72, Southwest Missouri State 69--Rick Shipley had 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Salukis at Springfield, Mo.

Southwest Missouri (22-12) led, 58-50, with 8:10 left when point guard Arnold Bernard was injured.

The Salukis (18-13) went on a 22-9 run, capped by two free throws each from Kelvan Lawrence and Shipley in the final 16 seconds, for a 72-66 lead.

Colorado 83, Wyoming 75--Stevie Wise scored 21 points, including three free throws in the final minute, and the Buffaloes got past the Cowboys at Boulder, Colo.

Colorado (17-13), which lost to Wyoming at Laramie, Wyo., in December, led by as many as 14 points in the first half and was ahead, 45-37, at halftime. But the Cowboys (20-12), closed to 72-68 on a three-pointer by Paris Bryant with 3:10 remaining.

Randy Robinson made a layup with 1:35 remaining for a 74-68 lead. Colorado added seven free throws and a dunk by Robinson.

Arkansas State 58, Memphis State 57--Bobby Gross sank a three-pointer to put the Indians ahead to stay and added a clinching free throw with 11 seconds left to beat the Tigers at Memphis, Tenn.

Gross’ free throw gave Arkansas State (23-8) a 58-54 lead. Memphis State’s Elliot Perry, who had 24 points, hit a three-pointer with four seconds left, but the Tigers (17-15) were out of timeouts.

Memphis State had a 46-37 lead on Perry’s three-pointer midway through the second half before the Indians went on a 13-3 run.
