Murder charges were filed Tuesday against a 19-year-old Pacoima man who police said shot a man in a dispute over money.

James Ware was being held in Los Angeles County Jail on charges stemming from the death of Russell Rezaimehr, 33, of Northridge. Rezaimehr was shot once with a small-caliber handgun at 2:30 a.m. March 4 as he walked near the intersection of Rayen Street and Orion Avenue in Sepulveda, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Jeffrey Semow.

After the shooting, Rezaimehr returned to his car and attempted to drive off but crashed into another vehicle, Semow said.

Initially, police thought he had died from head injuries sustained in the traffic accident, but a coroner’s investigation later revealed the bullet wound in his upper back.
