Share

Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Proctor was the unanimous selection of the South El Monte City Council as the city’s Deputy of the Year.

Mayor Jim Kelly presented the award last week to Proctor, whose job as liaison with the city includes coordinating programs in the schools to combat drug use, gang activities and graffiti.

Proctor, 36, grew up in Boyle Heights and is a 1973 graduate of Salesian High School. He said he enjoys working with youth and is involved in a number of community activities, including Little League. Last Thanksgiving, he was one of several sheriff’s deputies who volunteered to serve free food to the needy at Jim’s Burgers.

A seven-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, Proctor said law enforcement “was just something I was always interested in doing.”
