30% Cut in Water Use Proposed

Share

El Segundo city officials are calling for a 30% cutback in water use, the toughest conservation measure proposed in the South Bay to date.

Since March 1, homeowners, small businesses and large commercial water users in the city have been required to reduce water use by 20% compared to the period from June 1, 1989, to May 31, 1990.

The additional cutback is needed to conform with Metropolitan Water District restrictions imposed on the city, Public Works Director Ken Putnam said.

The City Council scheduled an April 2 public hearing on the proposal, which would amend the existing ordinance. If the amendment is approved, the new restrictions would go into effect April 3, Putnam said.
