Dave Andreychuk scored his 33rd goal of the season at 1:14 of overtime to give the Buffalo Sabres a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens Wednesday night at Buffalo.

The Canadiens’ loss clinched the Adams Division championship for the idle Boston Bruins, who lead Montreal by eight points.

Andreychuk corraled a loose puck to the side of Canadien goalie Andre Racicot and shoveled a backhander through a screen to move Buffalo one point ahead of Hartford into third place in the Adams Division.

Buffalo is 3-1-0 in its last four games after going 0-3-1 in its previous four.

Before Andreychuk’s goal, the Sabres faced the possibility of their 18th tie of the season.

“You could hear it on the bench,” said Sabre Coach Rick Dudley. “They were saying, ‘Let’s win the gosh-darned thing,’ I don’t think the players want another tie.

I don’t think the fans wanted another tie. So we were going after it There was no question about it.”
