Culver City : More Development Urged

Share

Culver City should encourage development to raise revenue for its depleted coffers, according to a report by the Culver City Public Finance Advisory Committee.

The city is facing a projected $3.5-million deficit in the coming fiscal year, and shortfalls are expected to continue through 1994 with the current level of spending.

To boost local development, the city should reduce the red-tape developers must go through and “should always be an advocate for the revenue producers,” the report says.

An increase in the utility user tax should only be approved as a last resort, and the committee recommends that the city avoid cuts in police, fire and other essential services.

Services likely to be cut include maintenance of street lighting, traffic signals, trees and park landscaping, according to the report.
