Recycling, Toxic Waste Disposal Center to Open

The city of Glendale will open a new center Tuesday where residents can turn in recyclable materials, dispose of household hazardous waste and learn more about conservation.

The Environmental Management Center, at 780 Flower St., will be operated by the Glendale Fire Department and will offer advice on water and energy conservation, landscaping, fire prevention and other environmental issues.

The center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month, beginning April 20, to accept such hazardous waste items as paint, antifreeze, vehicle batteries, drain openers, gasoline, used motor oil, swimming pool chemicals and pesticides. Glendale residents will be charged 65 cents a month on their utility bill for this service.

The center’s recycling program will offer residents full market value for their recyclable materials. The center will also process all materials collected from Glendale’s curbside recycling program.
