NBA ROUNDUP : Seattle Finally Gets Another Win in Phoenix

Eddie Johnson scored 17 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter as the Seattle SuperSonics won in Phoenix for the first time in four years by beating the Suns, 111-105, Friday night.

Phoenix, which had been 9-1 at home this season against Pacific Division opponents, got 23 points from Kevin Johnson and Dan Majerle. Tom Chambers had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Suns, who had beaten the SuperSonics in six of the past seven meetings overall.

Seattle, which last won in Phoenix on Dec. 23, 1987, trailed, 51-40, at halftime and 79-73 after three quarters, took an 85-84 lead on Eddie Johnson’s baseline jumper with 8:22 remaining.

There were six lead changes and five ties--the last at 100-100 on Kevin Johnson’s two free throws with 3:18 left--before the SuperSonics went ahead to stay on Ricky Pierce’s baseline jumper with 2:59 left and Eddie Johnson’s layup 22 seconds later.

The Suns, trailing, 111-105, after two free throws by Eddie Johnson with 21 seconds left, missed two jump shots in the final 11 seconds.

Philadelphia 95, Chicago 90--Ron Anderson scored 15 points in the fourth quarter, including two free throws with nine seconds left, as the host 76ers snapped the Bulls’ nine-game winning streak.

Charles Barkley had 22 points and 17 rebounds for Philadelphia. The loss was only the second for Chicago in their last 22 games.

Dallas 104, New York 102--Rolando Blackman scored six of his 25 points in overtime at Dallas as the Mavericks held off the Knicks, who had won 12 of their previous 14 games.

The Knicks had three late shots at the victory, but Trent Tucker’s three-point try missed with two seconds left in overtime. Patrick Ewing and Kiki Vandeweghe missed tip-in attempts as time ran out.

Minnesota 110, Cleveland 105--Tony Campbell scored 11 of his 30 points in a stretch of 3:11 in the fourth quarter at Minneapolis to help the Timberwolves win their 22nd game, equaling last season’s victory total, with 16 games left.

Craig Ehlo scored a season-high 24 points for the Cavaliers but scored only two in the final 15:12 of the game.

San Antonio 97, Miami 90--David Robinson sparked a key third-quarter run at Miami as the Spurs handed the Heat their seventh consecutive loss.

San Antonio, which made only one basket in the first 8 1/2 minutes of the third quarter, scored eight points in a row, six by Robinson, to take a 66-58 lead with 2:29 left. Moments later, the Spurs scored seven consecutive points to increase the lead to 75-64 with 10:36 left in the game.

Robinson scored 28 points and blocked three shots, marking the first time in the four games he has played against Miami that he failed to block at least five.

Detroit 109, New Jersey 93--The Pistons put away the victory at Auburn Hills, Mich., with a 12-1 run that made the score 105-83 with 3:57 left. Mark Aguirre scored six points during the run.

Detroit improved to 37-6 when holding the opposition to fewer than 100 points.

New Jersey never got closer than nine points in the second half, and Detroit led by as many as 16 in the third quarter before taking an 82-68 lead into the final period.

Indiana 121, Boston 109--The Pacers took control with a 14-2 third-quarter run to hand the Celtics their fifth consecutive loss at the Market Square Arena.

The Pacers improved to .500 for the first time since Nov. 16. They had lost two consecutive games by more than 20 points each to the Celtics.

Washington 121, Atlanta 116--Ledell Eackles had a season-high 33 points, including the game-winning basket with nine seconds left at Baltimore. The Bullets added four free throws in the closing seconds.

Doc Rivers, who scored 10 points in the fourth quarter, put the Hawks ahead, 116-115, on a three-point basket with 27 seconds left. Eackles then made a jump shot from the corner putting Washington ahead, 117-116.
