Bora Milutinovic said Friday he has agreed to become coach of the U.S. national soccer team, and that he will be introduced at a news conference Wednesday in New York.

Milutinovic, speaking by telephone from his home in Mexico City, said he had agreed Thursday to a contract running through December of 1994. Milutinovic, 46, coached Mexico in the 1986 World Cup and Costa Rica in the 1990 World Cup.

The USSF, in announcing the news conference, would not confirm that Milutinovic was being hired.
