From Staff and Wire Reports
A 15-year-old high school athlete in Portland, Me., was listed in satisfactory condition after impaling himself on a javelin and then pulling it out himself.
“It was just instinct,” Alfred Judd said. “I just pulled it right out.”
Judd was injured Friday during practice when he used the spear to try to stop a discus that a teammate rolled in his direction.
The 10-foot javelin punctured his abdomen, passed through a kidney and became lodged in his back.
