A Santa Ana man was arrested Tuesday after he led police on a chase through the city and rammed into a couple of patrol cars, slightly injuring two officers, authorities said.

John Edward Mitchell, 22, was taken to Orange County Jail and held on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon a police officer, police spokeswoman Maureen Haacker said.

The 10:30 a.m. pursuit occurred when officers, responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle, attempted to pull over a gray Chevrolet Corvette driven by Mitchell on the 300 block of West 10th Street.

Mitchell refused to pull over, hit two patrol cars and sped away, police recounted.

Two officers, whose names were not released, were slightly injured in the collisions. One was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. The other was treated at the scene.

Police said the 10-minute chase ended near the intersection of 20th and Main streets when Mitchell collided with another vehicle. He suffered minor scrapes and bruises.
