Teacher Praises Filipino Students

Share

Congratulations to Daryl Kelley and Psyche Pascual for their excellent article on the Filipino Community of Oxnard (March 10). It was long overdue.

Having taught for more than 20 years at Channel Islands High School, where the Filipino students make up 15% of the student body, I fully agree with the principal, Kenneth Benefield, that these students have a positive effect on the school in terms of academics and leadership.

I would like to congratulate not only the students but also the parents who send us these fine young people. I have found the Filipino students to be hard-working, courteous, humble and loyal to their school and their teachers.

It’s about time that the Filipino culture with its positive features be recognized and its impact on the Oxnard society be acknowledged. Count me as one of its admirers.
