Compton : Catholic High School to Add 7th, 8th Grades

Share

To increase enrollment, a Compton Catholic high school will offer classes to seventh- and eighth-graders next fall for the first time. Over the past five years, the student body at all-girl Regina Caeli High School has decreased from 354 in 1983 to 198 today, said Sister Greta Jupiter, the school’s principal.

“This is to provide a stronger base for our enrollment, and also to offer additional opportunities for young women in the area,” Sister Jupiter said.

She said the 29-year-old school’s enrollment has suffered because many longtime area residents, who grew up with the school, have moved to other areas. Much of the newer population is more transient and cannot afford the tuition, which is $155 a month for Catholics and $165 for non-Catholics, she said.
